Anna Scripps Conservatory Tile - Detroit Ceramic Art, Handmade

This 5x5 ceramic art tile features the striking Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. Its sweeping glass dome rises against a twilight-blue sky. Fine, linear carved lines trace the structure's panes and arches, giving the building a sense of lightness. The layered glazes create depth and subtle texture, with cool blues, pale grays, and crisp whites making the building seem almost luminous. Each tile has a notch on the back for easy wall installation, but can also be displayed on a small tabletop stand.

My tiles are handmade by pressing a block of stoneware clay into an original hand-carved mold. Once the tile is set, it is kiln-fired and glazed with a bulb syringe, using a variety of bright, beautiful glazes, and fired once more.
